News in Less Than 132 Minutes #1

Instead of making separate posts for each of these quick updates, I decided to start a new feature here called "News in Less Than 132 Minutes." (Maybe a bit cheesy, but I like it. hehe) These news posts will also include some updates from posts posted in the fan page in the past week or so.

- Melina Marchetta won Favorite Aussie Author in the PengTeen Awards. Congrats!

- MM shares how she got her writing process started for the day of November 18. *gasps* This proves that authors are normal people like us!

- The Piper's Son has been nominated in YALSA's Reader's Choice for Realistic Fiction. Congrats again and good luck!

- US paperback for The Piper's Son will have a different cover from the US hardcover. Cannot wait to see it!

- Froi of the Exiles is available on NetGalley for book reviewers. Here's your chance if you can't wait for the North American March release.

- The 'Lumatere Chronicles' will be published in Brazil! Awesome!

- Quintana of Charyn, the third book in the 'Lumatere Chronicles', will be released in Australia on October 2012. Yay! Less than a year away!

- Melina Marchetta might write another middle-grade novel featuring Danny Griggs, including a possible cameo from Jonah Griggs, for next year. Who else is excited!?

- She also shares some differences between the Jellioce novel and film. Love that we'll be able to experience even more Jellicoe, but in a different way!

- And MM is working with a friend on a 10-part TV series about Jessa McKenzie, 4 years after Jellicoe. So cool! Let's hope it works out! *crosses fingers*

That's it for this edition of News in Less Than 132 Minutes. Can't wait to share more exciting news next time. :)

Melina Marchetta interviewed for Just Contemporary

Just Contemporary

Ashely at Books from Bleh to Basically Amazing is the host of Just Contemporary, a month-long tribute to YA contemporary novels. She interviewed Melina Marchetta as part of the tribute, and the interview is completely awesome!

Here are some things that stood out to me: Jimmy Hailler, the Jellicoe script and novel, possibly another Danny Griggs novel with a cameo from you-know-who, maybe a 10 part TV series about Jessa McKenzie, release month of Quintana of Charyn, and more!

You can read the entire interview here!

The Crooked Shelf interviews Melina Marchetta

It's Aussie YA Month over at The Crooked Shelf, and Carla has interviewed Melina Marchetta! I love reading new interviews, especially ones with lots of enthusiasm! Melina Marchetta has some awesome responses about the YA genre and Jellicoe. My favorite would have to be her answer to the last question of 'If you could spend the day with two characters from your books, which characters would you choose and how would you spend your day?' Be sure to read the entire interview at The Crooked Shelf's blog post.

Update on Jellicoe Film Script + Reactions

"I finally handed in my Jellicoe script and I think (hope) that it’s pretty much all there. Next week we have a read-through with actors (by no means a film casting exercise) which is the final step to the Screen NSW Aurora Workshop we were invited to be part of earlier this year."
That's only a glimpse of Melina Marchetta's newest update on the On the Jellicoe Road film script! To read the entire post and to read what she has to say about her fans and recent novels, check out her blog post on GoodReads.

We are definitely excited! So, which actors can you see as the characters? Which scenes are you hoping make it into the film? Tell us your thoughts.

And we can't end this post without including reactions from some fans. (Imagine what the reactions will be like when/if the film is finally released!)

"I can't wait to hear more on "On The Jellicoe Road"! It is so exciting hearing all the gossip behind it! Thank you so much for bringing my fantasy world more to life - I don't know what I would have done without Jellicoe Road and Froi .etc. You truly have me addicted to your work and I just hope you know how much everyone loves you for your personality and talent! =)" -Kate

"Best of luck with it all! Just a side note: as it happens, I watched 'Looking for Alibrandi' for the first time this afternoon, though I have read the book several times. It was great, and it never ceases to amaze me how you capture the teenage voice without belittling us or making us sound 'angsty.' Great work!" -Blake

"I can barely imagine how brilliant it would be like see the Jellicoe characters brought to life. I still remember reading it for the first time and thinking about it for days afterward. I hope the script reading goes well. Best wishes!" -Tina

"I’m trying to stuff down the threatening ‘squee’ that’s about two seconds from spilling. And they’re not even filming yet! What’s even worst is the thought that Jellicoe Road might not even have a North American release! It doesn’t matter. Heck, I’ll fly to Australia just to see this movie. I’m not even joking.

I’ve been on tenterhooks, anxiously waiting to see which actors will play these characters we’ve come to love.

I know this film is still on a hatching stage, but I can rest easy knowing that Ms. Marchetta wrote the script and will remain genuine to the book. I’m so freaking excited!" -Joy
